Indianapolis Colts

After my successful college career at Minnesota, I was rather disapointed to not make the NFL draft.  But I persisted and was signed as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts. I made the team's opening day roster in 2005.  Maybe its something about being a free agent, I think we try harder.  I played on special teams gained a bit of notoriety as a hard hitter.  In 2006 I was second on the team in special teams tackles with 19.  I was blessed to play a part in the Colts historic Super Bowl run of 2006. I earned a Super Bowl ring on February 4, 2007, as we won Super Bowl XLI with a score of 29–17 over the Bears at Dolphin Stadium in Miami.

Denver Broncos

On February 28, 2009, I signed a three-year, $2 million contract with the Denver Broncos. The deal includes a $1.3 million signing bonus and I could earn an additional $2.8 million through sack and playing-time incentives.  I was on the fast track, but it but I ran in to some troubles due to a serious left knee injury. I suffered extensive cartilage damage to my knee and had a microfracture-type procedure in February of 2010. As a result, I halted my professional football career at age 29, with 6.5 sacks in 71 games. Then like any good former pro NFLer, I made my rounds at ESPN...

Charity

I see it as a blessing and it is my responsibility and a duty of mine to reach back and help others because there were so many who reached back and helped me.  I have had the opportunity to speak to thousands of youth across the country about the importance of not giving up, both in life and on themselves.  Adversity is a part of life and we will all face it, probably many times, that is out of our control; how we respond to it is what we control.

With the help of a great group of sponsors and a small group of volunteers we are trying to make a difference for our youth.  The mission of the Footz Foundation is to educate, empower and inspire youth to believe and achieve, promoting future success through life’s challenges. We hold several annual events including youth football camps, scholarships, school supply giveaways, speaking engagements and fundraisers, to help our youth, to strengthen families, schools and communities.  Adversity is a part of life and we will all face it, probably many times, that is out of our control; how we respond to it is what we control.

Personal

I was born in Freehold NJ and attended Freehold Boro HS. I was raised in a single parent home, and my grandfather played the father figure in my life. After losing every game my junior year in HS, I was fortunate enough to help our team win our division championship in my senior year.  I was named team captain and even though I broke my hand in the first game and missing 3 games, I was awarded All-State First-Team honors at middle linebacker.

After HS I went on to play college football at the University of Minnesota, where I was a four-year starter. I arrived at Minnesota as a linebacker but after redshirting I was switched to defensive tackle in 2001. That year I was the smallest Defensive tackle in the Big Ten weighing only 235 pounds. Yet, I was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, leading the team in sacks and tackles in my junior year and senior.  Academically, I also acquired a degree in Communications and Rhetoric with a minor in Leadership.
